I don't think we could have enjoyed this home more than we have. We've had so many dinner parties with the neighbours, enjoyed weddings together and always love the welcome you receive in the village. Pentyrch offers you everything you expect from a vibrant yet close village; you have your local independent stores such as the butchers, hairdressers and delicious tea rooms. We also have the best chemist in Wales, he helps all the older people, there is a lovely village school and pre-school which our grandchildren have attended.”
The village is also home to two village pubs, including the 16th century Welsh long house, Kings Arms, which serves real ales, fine wines and fresh locally sourced food. The village hall, rugby club, tennis courts, bowling and squash clubs are just some of the facilities that are on offer. The historic De Courceys Manor is also close by, which is a renowned wedding and events venue in the area.
Talking to the owners, their love for this property they've built is as strong as the day they first stood on the plot, but as the years have passed and children have grown and moved away, and the house has rooms that are not being used. “I love doing the garden but I realise it will start to be too much one day. It needs a family, and would suit those looking for a different lifestyle than the hustle of the city. I will miss the freedom; you are not overlooked, yet you're not isolated and the neighbours all look out for one another.”
If lockdown has made you reassess what you want in a home, should you wish to live in a picturesque, peaceful and private location that's within easy reach of many facilities, then you need to view Fox Field House. Because, just like the owners, once you stand in the garden with the sound of the stream and the uninterrupted countryside views, we know that you'll feel at home.
After seeing parents build their own home several years earlier, the owners decided that they wanted to build something that was their own too: “it wasn't easy, we worked really hard, and loved every minute of it.” The result is a truly unique home that offers you options for living in an idyllic setting overlooking open countryside that is hard to resist.
There are so many things to love about this home, beginning with the Juliet balcony in the master bedroom: “on warm nights we sleep with the windows open and listen to the sound of the trickling stream. The grandchildren have played Pooh sticks in the stream and enjoy sitting on the bridge dangling their legs over and pretending to fish. Christmas is amazing, we always have the biggest tree we can fit in the lounge with stockings hanging on the fireplace, it's wonderfully festive.”
The owner's mother lived with them for a while in a self-contained section of the house, complete with en-suite bedroom, living room and fully equipped kitchen. As this is no longer needed, the divide has been opened but could easily be reinstated providing a space for a relative, whether that's a grown-up child seeking independence or an older family member.
Many of us have a dream of building our own home, but how many of us actually succeed? For the owners of Fox Field House in the picturesque village of Pentyrch, their dream became a reality. “We had been looking for a building plot, we'd seen many but when we arrived the primroses were out by the stream and we felt at home.”
That is exactly the feeling you get as you approach this large five-bedroom home; the area is so peaceful, it's like you are in your own little paradise. The house flows effortlessly from room to room, and the little patios outside are the ideal spot to follow the sun's rise and fall. Your morning coffee can be enjoyed whilst watching the squirrels and rabbits play, and by the light of the log burner stove in the winter foxes dance around the snow-filled field. Hence, why the house was named, Fox Field House.
